Charlotte, North Carolina's Morehead Inn: A Southern Charmer

By George Medovoy, Editor

While traveling in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, we found the Morehead Inn, a lovely Charlotte historic landmark built in the Colonial-Revival style.

The inn is in a quiet area, but not a very far drive from Uptown Charlotte, which is the city's traditional downtown.

At the Morehead, our Solarium room felt like something one might find down in the Caribbean, with a blue-white-yellow pastel color motif and wicker lounging chair and couch to match.

Out in the spacious living room area, one could join the other guests and perhaps settle in with a good book or a newspaper.

This comfortable Southern inn, which takes pride in its Victorian roots, is actually located in the Dilworth area and was built in 1917. It has since been refurbished.

The Dilworth community of Charlotte, which was the city's first streetcar suburb, is a National Trust Historic District.

When the weather is nice, it's pleasant to take a seat on the patio or perhaps make use of one of the inn's bicycles.

For breakfast, we enjoyed the Morehead's "extended" Continental breakfast, which features fresh pastries, Belgian waffles made to order, and real china!
