Amtrak National Train Day

Amtrak will celebrate National Train Day and Reno Sparks Railroad Days at the Old Reno Depot Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

According to Amtrak, National Train Day allows Americans to Discover the Rail Way while enjoying free live entertainment, interactive and educational exhibits, kids’ entertainment, cooking demonstrations, model train displays and tours of notable private railroad cars, Amtrak equipment, freight and commuter trains.

Exhibits and vendors will be on site, and a drawing will be held for round-trip train rides to Truckee. The public is also invited to tour the facilities. Two brass bands will greet both Amtrak’s eastbound and westbound California Zephyr.

National Train Day marks 141 years of connecting travelers from coast to coast.

Other events will be held in Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
