Whale-Watching on Victoria-to-Vancouver Sailings

Prince of Whales, British Columbia’s largest whale-watching and eco-adventure company, now brings travellers between Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia an adventurous alternative to the ferry.

Onboard the Ocean Magic II, a 62’ aluminum express cruiser with both heated indoor and outdoor viewing areas, a comfortable excursion is offered from downtown to downtown that highlights the rugged beauty of the West Coast and incorporates whale watching in British Columbia.

The focus of the Ocean Magic II harbor-to-harbor trip is spectacular whale-watching and marine wildlife exposure for its passengers. The crew adjusts the travel route based on where the whales are most likely to be seen. In addition, each sailing has a trained naturalist on board to provide commentary and answer questions.

Great Respect for Whales

“We have a great respect for the whales and an extensive knowledge of the local waters, which is a pleasure to share with our passengers,” says Anna Hall, Prince of Whales’ chief naturalist.

"We have a very high success rate at sighting killer whales. We have observed some amazing sights, particularly on the Vancouver-to-Victoria excursion. Passengers should keep watch for killer whales fishing and socializing, as well as porpoises, seals, sea lions and a diversity of sea birds.”

The Ocean Magic II Express Cruiser will accommodate 74 passengers with all the comforts necessary for the four hour journey. There will be complimentary muffin and coffee service provided for the morning excursion, as well as beverages and light snacks available to purchase, two washrooms, a heated front cabin and a mid ship indoor/outdoor viewing area as well as two outside viewing decks.

Unique Packages Offered

Prince of Whales will also offer unique packages. The Whales and Gardens Package combines whale watching with a visit to Victoria’s Butchart Gardens. Upon arrival in Victoria, passengers have three hours of free time to enjoy downtown Victoria, then board a Gray Line West tour to The Gardens before catching a BC Ferry back to Vancouver.

The Sea to Sky Whales and Fly Tour allows visitors to see the South coasts’ beauty from both air and sea with a one way trip aboard the Ocean Magic II and a return flight on a harbour sea plane.

The Ocean Magic 11 runs from June 1 to September 16. Tours will start at Vancouver’s Waterfront Station and Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Rates begin at $119 (adult).
