The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island Has a Lovely Beach...and Golfing, Too

There's a beach in the South Carolina Low Country where we soaked up the sun and loved every minute of it.

It's the lovely beach on Kiawah Island, located a short drive from downtown Charleston, South Carolina. And the beach is part of The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The sand makes for nice walks, and the resort will provide deck chairs and umbrellas for lounging.

The beach water was so nice and warm that it felt just like a soothing bath.

One night, we took a guided walk on the beach and discovered a hidden life of all sorts of ocean crawlers cavorting on the sand.

The Sanctuary, you could say, is a kind of "sanctuary" from everyday life, but surprisingly only 30 minutes from Charleston.

Many people also live on the island permanently and commute into town.
The Sanctuary's 255 spacious rooms and suites, all within a stone's throw of the beach, are beautifully appointed and very comfortable.

In the main building, a majestic, winding staircase looks like something, fittingly, right out of "Gone with the Wind."

The big "living room" in the main building also has very comfortable chairs for reading and enjoying a drink.

If you're a golfer, Kiawah's Golf Learning Center offers instruction with state-of-the-art equipment and PGA-certified professional instructors.
