Take a Sunset Hike in Squaw Valley, California

For a unique and natural mountain experience, Squaw Valley offers guided Sunset Hikes on Friday and Saturday evenings and Full Moon Hikes on the evening before and the evening of the full moon in July and August. Both Sunset and Full Moon Hikes leave from High Camp (elevation 8,200 feet, at approximately 6 pm.

High Camp, at the top of the Cable Car, is an ideal trailhead for mountain exploration. Hikers can easily access the beautiful views from Squaw’s mountain peaks.

Knowledgeable guides provide a wealth of information about the geology, flowers, trees and animals native to the region, as well as Squaw Valley history and environmental sustainability projects currently underway at the resort.

The hikes are $5 for adults, youth & seniors and free for children 12 and under. An evening Cable Car & Hike Package is $15 for adults, youth & seniors and children ride the Cable Car for just $5 after 5 pm.

This summer Sunset Hikes are scheduled for July 11-12, July 19, July 25-26, August 1-2, August 8-9, and August 29-30, 2008.

Full Moon Hikes are scheduled for July 17 & 18 and August 15 & 16, 2008.

Sunset Hikes last approximately 1-2 hours and Full Moon Hikes last roughly 2-3 hours depending on the timing of the moonrise. Both are casually paced hikes with the hike destination and route customized to the group’s size and interest. Both hikes explore easy to moderate terrain and hikers are free to walk at their own pace. Sturdy shoes and warm clothes are recommended, and hikers are encouraged to bring water and a flashlight.

Hikers of all ages and abilities are welcome and no reservations are needed. Please note that all hikes depart at 6 pm from High Camp. Guests are encouraged to arrive between 5 and 5:30 pm so they can ride the Cable Car to High Camp. Hike registration takes place between 5:30 and 6 pm at the top of the Cable Car (High Camp).
